Dear Bryant,

13 NOV

November, 1950.

I refer to the correspondence with your Department under your reference 55387/4749 and to the meeting of 29th April, 1949 regarding the funds sent from the United Kingdom to provide relief for prisoners of war and civilian internees in the Far East and which are now blocked in Shanghai and Tokyo.

We have now received a remittance from the War Organi- sation of the British Red Cross Society and Order of St. John and are therefore in a position to forward you the sum of £115,660 2s. 11d. in respect of the Colonial Government funds which did not get beyond Geneva and which had been credited to the War Organisation Account at Geneva by the International Red Cross Committee.

A letter from Morris of the Treasury states that this sum should be taken by you as an Exchequer Extra Receipt and also refers you to the financial agreement concluded with Hong Kong on 3rd May, 1950.

If you are prepared to receive the above sum I will arrange for a Payable Order to be sent to you on receipt of your reply.

Yours sincerely,

G. Bryant Esq.,

Colonial Office,

Downing Street,

S.W.1.
